Element Assistant

Eclipse's Element Assistant provides an automated method for entering element parameters and
makes memorizing element parameters completely unnecessary. The Element Assistant dialog box shown below is displayed by right mouse clicking on an element in the Netlist Editor or by pressing F2.

Selecting an Element

Eclipse's elements are divided into several families as listed in the Category list box. Each entry in the Category list box is accompanied by a unique list of elements in the Element list box. To define a capacitor, for instance, select Lumped in the Category list box and then select C in the Element list box.

Reference Designator and Node Numbers

Each element must have a unique Reference Designator and is entered in the Ref Des field. Additionally, most elements have a physical location in the circuit identified by node numbers. When you place the cursor in the Nodes field both the number of nodes and their specific meaning is shown in the bottom portion of the dialog box.

Element Parameters and Optimization limits.

For each element there are corresponding parameters listed in the Param edit fields. When you place the cursor in a parameter field a short explanation of its usage is shown at the bottom of the dialog box.

The Opt/Yield field allows you to optionally specify an optimization range and tolerance data for the associated parameter. The optimization range is entered as a minimum and maximum value separated by one or more spaces. The tolerance data is separated from the optimization range using a semicolon and prefaced with the character ‘T’ (not case sensitive).
